The Pequod Review:

John Edgar Wideman’s memoir Brothers and Keepers is an attempt to explain the divergent life paths he and his brother took (John became a successful writer and professor, while Robert is serving a life term prison sentence). He doesn’t come to any solid conclusions, but the book is nonetheless a personal and engaging read; especially strong are Wideman’s descriptions of the prison conditions where his brother resides.
