What the Dog Saw collects nineteen of Malcolm Gladwell's previously-published New Yorker essays. Gladwell's pieces explore a wide range of subjects: the Challenger explosion, a famous Led Zeppelin guitar riff, Enron, John F. Kennedy Jr.’s fatal plane crash, and (in a true masterpiece of an essay) the enduring success of Heinz ketchup. It is easy to find fault in Gladwell’s work, especially his glib way of throwing around (and sometimes misreading) scientific studies and other data. But his writing is so lucid, and full of such boundless enthusiasm and curiosity, that it nearly doesn’t matter.
