The Pequod Review:

Published in 1919, E.C. Bentley’s detective novel Trent’s Last Case introduces the memorable character of Philip Trent — a flawed and fallible amateur detective who attempts to solve a murder investigation but gets it comprehensively wrong. While Trent is a refreshingly realistic change of pace from his uber-brilliant contemporaries, the plot of Bentley’s book takes too many nonsensical turns.
