The Pequod Review:

Unlike US household income statistics (which are well-tracked through the IRS), wealth information is notoriously unreliable and mostly comes from a handful of surveys, principally the Fed’s Survey of Consumer Finances. Edward Wolff’s 1995 book Top Heavy was one of the first attempts to pull this data together and try to present at least a somewhat accurate picture of American wealth over time. I would have preferred a slightly more apolitical tone to his writing though.
