The Pequod Review:

Patrick Modiano’s books have an alluring but elusive atmosphere, well-written but distant, easy to admire but difficult to love. In his noir novel Sundays in August, a married couple retreat to the French Riveria in an attempt to escape their Parisian past. It is clear from the beginning that it will not be an unambiguous success.
