Stranger Shores is a collection of 26 literary essays and reviews on various writers, including Salman Rushdie, Amos Oz, Daniel Dafoe, Nadine Gordimer, Aharon Appelfeld, William Gass, and of course Franz Kafka. Coetzee remains an enchanting stylist, but his essays are often perfunctory, and lack detailed insights or analytical rigor.
