The Pequod Review:

The Silence of the Lambs is basically an improved version of Red Dragon (1981), with a better narrative and more interesting characters. And this time the imprisoned Dr. Hannibal Lecter has a starring role, as he is brought in to help FBI Special Agent Clarice Starling find the serial killer “Buffalo Bill" (so named because he skins his victims after starving them for two weeks). The book is a superb psychological character study of Dr. Lecter, a violent and manipulative serial killer who is nonetheless charming and intelligent. Cannibalism has never been so seductive.
