The Pequod Review:

Jim Thompson's Savage Night is a masterpiece of a psychological noir, involving an insecure and physically ridiculous hit man (five feet tall in elevator shoes, with bad teeth, poor eyesight, and ill health) hired to kill a mob witness before his trial date. Thompson subverts the traditional Syndicate/Mob plot with some of his tightest and most experimental prose yet.
