Sadie When She Died

The Pequod Review:
Sadie When She Died is the twenty-sixth book in Ed McBain's 87th Precinct series, and one of the best, as Detective Steve Carella investigates the murder of a housewife. The victim's husband does not hide his satisfaction with her death (“My wife was a no-good bitch, and I’m delighted someone killed her") but he has an air-tight alibi. When a junkie confesses to the crime in connection with a burglary, it appears to be an open-and-shut case — but Carella suspects a more complicated story.
