The Pequod Review:

Random Family, published in 2002, is a deeply researched book that follows four poor Latinos in the South Bronx over eleven years, with a focus on their day-to-day concerns. I enjoyed this book much more than others in the genre, which are usually too moralizing or agenda-driven. Recommended.
