The Pequod Review:

My Experiences as an Executioner is a first-person memoir of a real-life English executioner (James Berry) who carried out 131 hangings between 1884-1891. Berry's book includes intelligent observations on his methods, mechanisms, and specific executions, as well as his views on capital punishment. It is also full of economics, as he describes the business side of being an executioner. Recommended.
