Mister Pip

The Pequod Review:
In Lloyd Jones's Mister Pip, a young girl living in the impoverished and war-torn Pacific island nation of Bougainville finds hope and enchantment from her teacher’s daily readings of Dickens’s Great Expectations. Jones's prose is a bit conventional, but the book is an effective homage to Dickens. And the narrative has a fable-like atmosphere, with the story told from the girl’s perspective many years later.
