Made in America is one of Bill Bryson’s least essential books, a compendium of historical facts and anecdotes related to the American English language. Bryson’s narrative is scattered and poorly-organized, and he too often settles for recounting urban myths that sound cute or entertaining rather than actually doing the work to verify them.
