The Pequod Review:

Kiss, Ed McBain's forty-fourth 87th Precinct novel, features two main plot threads: Detective Steve Carella's investigation of a woman who is receiving threats on her life, coupled with the murder trial of the man who murdered Carella's father. Unfortunately, the two plots don't really fit together well, and they are missing the strong narrative tension of McBain's better books. But McBain is still a better writer than almost anyone else in the crime genre.
