The Pequod Review:

Kawaha is one of Donald Westlake's most serious and significant novels, one that is set in Africa and involves the theft of $6 million of coffee en route to export. Kahawa is a dense and character-driven book that proves Westlake had more range than most people give him credit for, but I find it a bit too conventional to rank with his finest work. However, many people consider this to be his masterpiece, and Westlake himself was very proud of it.
