The Pequod Review:

In House of Sand and Fog, An Iranian-American immigrant buys an undervalued home at a foreclosure auction, only to discover the eviction of the previous tenant was based on wrongfully-assessed property taxes. While he now legally owns the property — and desperately needs the expected profits — the prior owner isn’t willing to give up her fight for the house. Despite some outlandish plot developments (especially in the second half of the novel), Andre Dubus is a talented writer and his book covers deep themes of economic insecurity, masculinity, and the American dream.
