Dusk and Other Stories

James Salter’s first short story collection (Dusk and Other Stories) has his characteristically intimate prose, as he details the pauses and gaps and quiet moments of daily life. Salter's stories are occasionally too contrived and undeveloped to rise to the power of his novels, but otherwise this is an excellent collection.
