Dolly City
Rating
The Pequod Review:
This surreal novel has a remarkable setting: Dolly City, “the most demented city in the world,” with 400-story apartment high-rises, periodic aerial bombardments, and nightmarish scenes of violence. The book describes a woman named Doctor Dolly, a trained surgeon who has a frenzied and anxious desire to use her knife on everything and everyone. The plot is unfortunately a bit of a mess, and the themes of motherhood and Zionism are too transparently allegorical. But this is one of those unforgettable books, with scenes of brutal violence set against a dystopian urban landscape.
