Dirty Snow

The Pequod Review:
One of Georges Simenon’s finest serious character studies, Dirty Snow is a raw and bleak account of a minor thug (Frank Friedmaier) in the corrupt atmosphere of wartime occupation. As the world around him crumbles, Frank’s nihilism leads him to theft, murder (first for fun, later out of necessity), rape, and much more. Think Camus’s The Stranger retold by Jim Thompson.
