Edited by John Lahr, The Diaries of Kenneth Tynan is a series of intelligent and entertaining excerpts from Tynan's private diaries. I loved this book, and also found many thoughtful recommendations for literature, films and theater productions in his entries. But it helps to already have an appreciation of Tynan's life and work beforehand.
