The Day of the Triffids

The Pequod Review:
In his post-apocalyptic sci-fi novel The Day of the Triffids, John Wyndham somewhat awkwardly joins two events: a meteor shower that blinds 99% of the human population, coupled with the emergence of carnivorous plants that kill humans. Nonetheless, Wyndham’s narrative is full of frighteningly realistic details, as well as a Malthusian cheer (or at least indifference) to widespread human death that gives the book a uniquely campy appeal.
