The Confidential Agent

The Pequod Review:
The Confidential Agent is a thriller that takes place during an unnamed war, as a university professor from continental Europe is sent to England to secretly purchase coal. The mission is complicated at every turn, and the professor quickly loses his innocence. While the book features several excellent characters, Greene’s awkward shift between suspense and humor doesn’t always hold together well. And his crude anti-Jewish humor is offensive and unfunny.
