I have never loved Clarice Lispector’s novels, but this collection of eighty short stories is an absolute delight. Her stories are surreal, inventive and often very funny, and with prose that (perhaps partly the result of translation) is exotic and idiomatic. This is the place to begin if you are new to Lispector's work.
