Berlin Game

Len Deighton is most famous for his 1970s espionage series featuring Harry Palmer, a working-class British spy with a healthy and humorous disrespect for authority. But in the 1980s, he wrote a pair of very good trilogies featuring a veteran MI6 spy named Bernard Samson. These novels are deeper and more subtle than the earlier Palmer books, and have a world-weariness similar to John le Carre's best work. In Berlin Game, the first book in the Game, Set and Match Trilogy, Samson is tasked with bringing an East German agent back to London, while evidence emerges of a KGB mole within MI6.
