The Ampersand Papers

Published in 1978, The Ampersand Papers is Michael Innes's twenty-eighth Inspector John Appleby crime novel. The book's investigation involves a body that falls off a cliff near a wealthy family's estate (the Ampersands) and nearly hits Appleby. The story is quite weak but there is a coziness to Innes's prose and setting that many readers may find charming.
