W.G. Sebald

This short work is a lucid and intelligent critical biography of the great German writer W.G. Sebald. Schutte is an expert on his subject; this is one of three books he has written or edited on Sebald, in addition to numerous essays, presentations, and podcasts. In this volume, he summarizes his key insights into a well-organized and clearly-articulated series of chapters on each of Sebald’s primary works. This is likely of interest only to serious Sebald fans, but it is an outstanding example of what critical writing should aspire to.
