The Pequod Review:

The Thin Man is one of Dashiell Hammett’s more humorous and romantic novels. Nick Charles (a retired private detective) is on vacation in New York with his wife when his former employer (Clyde Wynant) is discovered missing. The search for Wynant becomes one of the most gripping narrative threads in Hammett's entire body of work, however the ultimate resolution is underwhelming (as is the idea that the indolent Nick would be the one to solve it).
