A Star Called Henry

A Star Called Henry is the first book in Roddy Doyle’s Last Roundup trilogy, one that traces the life of its protagonist (Henry Smart) from his impoverished birth in Dublin (1901) through the Easter Rising (1916) and the Irish War of Independence (1919-1921). The book may not excel as a work of historical fiction but there are a number of humorous characters as well as an engaging (and very Irish) multitude of voices.
