Sly and the Family Stone: An Oral History

Sly and the Family Stone were a pivotal band in the history of rock and soul (and even jazz), and they remain hugely underrated today. Joel Selvin's oral history of the band is well-researched and includes interviews with Sly Stone's parents, bandmates, managers and fellow musicians (including the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane and other bands). It's a quite compelling story that intelligently captures Sly's wide-ranging talent and tragic downfall. Recommended.
