The Pequod Review:

John Updike's Self-Consciousness is a revealing series of autobiographical essays. Despite Updike’s good-natured disposition, he had deep physical insecurities throughout his life due to a variety of ailments, including psoriasis, stuttering, and asthma. And his last chapter on aging is one of the best essays he would ever write.
