The Secret History

Donna Tartt's The Secret History is an academic murder mystery set at a 1980s Vermont college. It is less a mystery than a drama — the murder is revealed at the start of the book — but the story persuasively shows how a group of four otherwise normal scholars could become killers. Reviews were mixed, but I found this more engaging than any of Tartt's other books to date.
