Sahara Unveiled: A Journey Across the Desert
Rating
The Pequod Review:
Sahara Unveiled is a memoir of William Langewiesche's journey across the Sahara Desert, starting in Algiers (on the Mediterranean Sea) and then moving south and west across the desert to Dakar, Senegal (on the Atlantic Ocean). Langewiesche's book is both a personal memoir of a difficult and dangerous trip — due to threats from both humans and the climate — as well as detailed cultural history of the region's remote towns, harsh landscapes and violent tribal societies.
