Noble Savages: My Life Among Two Dangerous Tribes – The Yanomamo and the Anthropologists
Rating
The Pequod Review:
Noble Savages is Napoleon Chagnon's combative autobiography of his anthropological career, recounting both his work with the Yanomamo people and the more recent "smear campaigns" which accused him of (among other things) intentionally introducing measles to the tribe. Chagnon was indeed the victim of a grave injustice, a baseless and utterly false attack by the "journalist" Patrick Tierney. Unfortunately, Chagnon's extended discussion of the topic in the book is tiresome and unnecessary, especially considering the fact that his colleagues already more effectively made his case.
