In The Midnight Line, Jack Reacher finds a 2005 West Point graduation ring in a pawn shop, and his search for the former owner takes him to South Dakota and Wyoming, and through the middle of the American opioid epidemic. The book starts strong, but devolves into a sentimental ending uncharacteristic of the series.
