Hard Rain Falling

The Pequod Review:
Hard Rain Falling, Don Carpenter's first novel, is the story of an orphaned teenager (Jack Levitt) who roams the down-and-out pool halls of Portland, Oregon. Beneath a tough and gritty surface is an impressive coming-of-age story about friendship, sexual passion, and manhood. And Carpenter’s spare and lucid prose make it one of the better modern American novels.
