The Great Explosion

The Pequod Review:
Eric Frank Russell's The Great Explosion is a science fiction novel involving a spaceship from Earth that attempts to unify a series of planets long ago colonized by humans. The spaceship encounters unusual societies on each planet it visits — a penal colony, a group of body-obsessed nudists, etc. — and suffice to say few of its interactions are successful. It's a somewhat predictable Gulliver's Travels-like set up, but Russell has some fun with the premise and there are several humorous scenes. Children and teenagers may enjoy it more than adults.
