In Goodey's Last Stand, Detective Joe Goodey is fired from the San Francisco police force after accidentally shooting the mayor’s uncle, but retains a private eye license to pursue a case on his own time in the red light district. It's a solid hard-boiled novel in the tradition of Raymond Chandler.
