The Pequod Review:

Gambit is one of Rex Stout's most plot-centered and detective-focused stories, as Nero Wolfe and Archie Goodwin spend most of the book investigating a murder at an East Village chess club. Wolfe is in fine form, starting with a great opening moment when he burns the pages of his new edition of Webster's Dictionary after discovering an entry claiming that the words infer and imply could be used interchangeably. A highly satisfying whodunit.
