Ever Since Darwin: Reflections in Natural History
The Pequod Review:
For over 25 years, the biologist/ paleontologist Stephen Jay Gould (1941-2002) wrote an outstanding monthly column (“The View of Life”) for Natural History Magazine. Ever Since Darwin collects 33 of these pieces written between 1973-1977, covering a wide range of science-related topics: Charles Darwin, evolution, geology, genetics, and scientific theories more generally. While the abbreviated format of his columns too often leads to surface-level analyses, they are nonetheless lucid, witty, and a delight to read. Highly recommended for fans of the popular science work of Richard Dawkins, Bill Bryson, and Richard Feynman.
