The Pequod Review:

Ostensibly a work of fiction, Alain de Botton's Essays in Love uses the threadbare plot of a love affair as a frame on which to hang various observations on love, relationships, philosophy and more. The narrative and character development are so weak that they threaten to derail the novel, but de Botton’s philosophical observations are sharp, witty and playful, and make the book an engaging read.
