Descent Into Hell

The Pequod Review:
Set in a quiet suburban town thirty miles from London, Charles Williams's Descent Into Hell chronicles the spiritual journeys of three individuals going through various personal crises. It builds to a deeply moral and Christian book in the way it explores love, grace, and sin, and Paul’s injunction to “bear one another’s burdens.” (Williams was a member of The Inklings, along with C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien, and his work frequently included elements of religious symbolism.)
