The Pequod Review:

Ariel Dorfman's Death and the Maiden is an intelligent, personal, and non-dogmatic exploration of authoritarianism and torture. The setting of the play is a nameless country, but the subtext is Chile and specifically the Pinochet regime. The play was made into a 1994 film by Roman Polanski.
