Danse Macabre

Danse Macabre is a non-fiction historical review of the horror genre as it has appeared in literature, film/TV, comics and other forms. I liked this line, buried in a footnote:

The imaginative person has a clearer fix on the fact of his/her fragility; the imaginative person realizes that anything can go disastrously wrong, at any time.

Published in 1981, the book is now significantly dated; I would be interested in an updated version that includes horror works from the last several decades.
