The Pequod Review:
A Constellation of Vital Phenomena, Anthony Marra's first novel, is the tragic story of a nine-year-old Chechen refugee (Havaa) whose life is saved by the altruism of a neighbor and local hospital surgeon. Marra is a fine writer and the book has a number of tender scenes, but the overall narrative is oddly unengaging.
