The Pequod Review:

The short stories in this final collection may not build to the all-encompassing power of Henry James's novels, but they are of consistently high quality and deal with some of his most personal and autobiographical concerns. The highlights include “The Great Good Place” (in which an overworked writer fantasizes about a life of reclusiveness and relaxation), “The Jolly Corner” (a story of lifelong yearning and regret), and especially “The Beast in the Jungle” (involving a man so absorbed with fear that he realizes late in life how much he has failed to experience).
