The Complete Short Stories of Ambrose Bierce
Rating
The Pequod Review:
Ambrose Bierce (1842-1914) was an eclectic writer whose preference was for the short story. (He called the novel “a short story padded; a species of composition bearing the same relation to literature that the panorama bears to art.”) This book collects the majority of his short stories, most of which are horror stories or ghost stories. Overall they are of mixed quality, but a few are exceptional — especially “An Occurrence at Owl Creek.”
