Cadillac Desert: The American West and Its Disappearing Water
Rating
The Pequod Review:
Cadillac Desert is a detailed and economically-intelligent analysis of the water policies across the Western United States, and especially the significant costs incurred over the last 200 years in order to provide water to California and the Western desert region. Despite an occasionally agenda-driven tone, this is an excellent historical analysis, not just of the region but also of the US Bureau of Reclamation, which comes off especially poorly in its pursuit of projects solely for bureaucratic reasons.
