The Pequod Review:

The plot of Briarpatch (Ross Thomas’s eleventh novel under his own name) is one of his simplest and most conventional, as a young female police officer is murdered and her brother looks for the killer. But Thomas’s witty prose and vivid setting (deep in the US Sunbelt) make it an enjoyable read. Winner of the 1985 Edgar Award for Best Mystery Novel.
