The Best of Mr. Fortune Stories
Rating
The Pequod Review:
H.C. Bailey (1878-1961) was an English writer whose most famous creation was Reggie Fortune (or Mr. Fortune), an eccentric detective who appeared in over eighty short stories and a handful of novels. Mr. Fortune is both a doctor and an amateur detective, and he uses Holmes-like moments of intuition to miraculously (and sometimes implausibly) solve crimes. Still there is something comforting and familiar about these well-plotted short stories, the best of which appear in this collection.
