The Pequod Review:

Annie Dillard's memoir of her childhood contains several beautiful scenes familiar to anyone who grew up in the American Midwest — Sunday church services, school dances, the world of rocks and insects, and the pleasure of discovering new books. Dillard's prose is sometimes overwritten and it's a bit too sentimental for my taste, but the scenes are quite memorable.
